IT System Requirements for Running Young Academy Lessons
Running Young Academy Online
- Browser: Supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or 7
- Bandwidth connection: Broadband recommended
- Minimum screen resolution: 1024 X 768
- Flash plug-in version 8 or later. You can download the plug-in here
- Pop-up blockers: Pop-up blockers should be switched off or authorised to Young Academy.
Offline one-time settings (to download and run Young Academy offline)
Internet Explorer 6 security settings
- Open browser
- Click on the 'Tools' menu and select 'Internet Options'
- Click on the 'Advanced' tab
- Scroll down the 'Settings' window to the 'Security' section
- If available, check the option 'Allow active content to run in files on My Computer'
- Click on the 'Apply' button
- Close the browser window.
Internet Explorer 7 security settings
- Open browser
- Click on the 'Tools' menu and select 'Internet Options'
- Click on the 'Advanced' tab
- Scroll down the 'Settings' window to the 'Security' section
- Check the option 'Allow active content to run in files on My Computer'
- Uncheck the option 'Enable native XMLHTTP support'.
Add offline Flash security
- Open Windows system32 directory
- Make a new folder in the system32 folder (if it does not already exist) as follows:
C:\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashPlayerTrust - In the 'FlashPlayerTrust' directory create/place a text file called flash8Security.txt
- Open the flash8Security.txt file and add the following text:

Fonts
The Young Academy lessons are designed using the BMW font, but can be viewed in Arial if the BMW font is not available. For optimum viewing, please install the BMW fonts as follows:
Windows XP
- To download the BMW fonts, right-click here
- Select 'Save Target As...' and save the compressed file to your computer hard drive
- Expand the compressed file to a folder on your computer hard drive
- From the 'Start' menu select 'Control Panel'
If your Control panel is set to 'Category View'..- Select the 'Appearance and Themes' category
- Select 'Fonts' from the 'See Also' panel at the left of this screen
If your Control panel is set to 'Classic View'..- Double-click the 'Fonts' icon to open the 'Fonts' folder
- On the 'File' menu, select 'Install New Font...'
- Click the drive and folder that contain the fonts you want to add
- Click on 'Select All', then click on 'OK'.
