Lesson 1: Basic Electrical Theory

Electricity is an important part of everyday life. We need electricity to give us light and heat and to power computers, televisions and other electronic equipment. Electricity also plays an important role in modern day cars.

In this lesson you will find out how electricity is created from electrons, the tiny particles found in atoms, how electrons can be moved from one place to another and how electrons flow through electrical circuits.

At the end of this lesson you should be able to explain:

  • The basic structure of atoms
  • The behaviour of ions
  • Why various types of materials have an effect on resistance
  • The definitions of voltage and current resistance.
