Energy today
Our world today is a very different place to that of the early humans many thousands of years ago; it is even different from the world 100 years ago.
We have a very different lifestyle to early humans. We have houses that are heated, we have schools and shops, and we travel long distances in cars and planes. There are also a lot more people living on Earth than ever before. This has led to a huge increase in the amount of energy we use.
Today we mostly burn fossil fuels to provide us with energy - but fossil fuels are non-renewable and will eventually run out. They also create pollution when they are burnt. We must therefore find alternative sources to provide us with clean, renewable energy.
In this section we look at renewable energy: solar, wind, water, geothermal, biomass and hydrogen.
