Modern cars are designed to provide a significant amount of in-car protection to their occupants, in the event of a crash.

A key skill for race drivers is that they need to be able to maintain high speeds in order to win a race. This need is hampered by the need for safety - for themselves, other drivers, spectators and competition officials. They also need to adhere to all rules and regulations governing the race.

On the road, inappropriate speed is one of the main causes of road crashes. Similarly to the formula driving, there are rules and regulations that road drivers have to obey.

There are numerous hazards that can cause a driver to be involved in a crash. Potential hazards are everywhere, and one of the best ways of dealing with them is recognising that there is a risk of the unexpected happening. One way of handling these types of situations in the best way is the transferable skill of risk assessment.

In this section you will find student activities, worksheets, templates and factsheets concentrating on these issues.
