Teachers' Information

Introduction for Teachers of 12-16 year olds
The world of formula cars and racing is a fascinating topic for students. Unfortunately, it is often accompanied by misconceptions of unrestricted speed and risky driving - these can be transferred to dangerous road behaviour when students learn to drive.

The fact is that formula driving is a skilled and professional sport and prospective drivers are trained and educated from a young age - including areas that one would not immediately associate with racing. It takes more than just talent to become a professional racing driver!

The Formula BMW Education and Coaching Programme is one of the most advanced programmes of its kind, teaching young drivers how to become the best in their chosen field. Today's successful driver has to adapt to a wide range of roles and functions and to develop:

  • a great degree of self-discipline
  • high level of risk awareness and risk management skills
  • a thorough understanding of car mechanics and the laws of physics
  • respect for their own body and well-being - both physical and mental
  • respect for others and ability to work as a team.

Throughout this educational resource, The Formula BMW Education and Coaching Programme has been used as a springboard to develop and sustain students' interest. Issues are then widened to cover students' everyday experiences and on-road driving. While promoting the ethos and quality of The Formula BMW Education and Coaching Programme, this resource is independent from it.

Our aim is to help students familiarise with all aspects of driving and to develop a safe attitude, even before they learn to drive. This will not only make them safer drivers later on, but will provide them with skills they can use in their daily life.
