Cycle Safety

Cycling is fun and keeps us healthy. However, cyclists can be vulnerable in traffic, especially young children.

What you can do to help your child...

  • Make sure your child wears a cycle helmet, every time they ride their bike.
  • Check that the bike fits them - if it is too large or too small, it will be uncomfortable to ride and difficult to handle.
  • Encourage them to wear clothes and accessories that help them to be seen by other road users.
  • Get them trained! Find out details of cycle training courses in your area, from your local safety officers (usually based at the Council Offices).
